Yeah, but the part of my message you didn't quote made it quite clear i know
about this problem, what i would really propose is:

[core]
 ...
[branch.core]
 ...
[remote.core]
 ...

etc...

But it's not just the config file, it's also how it ends up being used
on the command line..  you have to admit silent differences between
these two command lines is _not_ desirable:

    $ git repo-config "Branch".url  
    $ git repo-config Branch.url

That can't be something you want to see either.
